Creative Candles Blog
This holiday season we are focusing on gifting experiences to our loved ones. In this first blog of the series we discuss a date night in with your significant other. Enjoy.
On the whole, we’re a busy society. Nearly everyone these days is scheduled to the max, and if it’s not on the calendar, it’s not real. For couples, it’s easy to get lost in the activity and forget what’s most important – our significant other. That’s why it’s important to carve out time in that calendar for date nights.
And let’s be clear – date nights are special. These are the evenings with your love and should be treated with care. No rushing allowed! A bit of planning and some careful thought go a long way in creating an experience that keeps the magic alive in your relationship.
That said, sometimes the best date nights are those without a lot of fuss. The time and energy you put into planning a special evening doesn’t have to mean a dinner reservation and theater tickets. Sometimes the greatest joy can be found right at home, appreciating your shared space in a new way and for a new reason.
Still, you want it to be special. You spend a lot of time in your home, and it can be the scene of rushed greetings and exits, crying children, and the national news on the TV. Just because you stay home for a date night doesn’t mean you can simply order in and kick back on the couch.
For the night to be special, you must transform your home from the daily grind to an oasis.
You want the experience to feel luxurious, bespoke, and meant for a couple reconnecting.
To get started, lower the lights, turn off your phones, have a glass of wine. And light a beautiful, handmade candle.
Candlelight is the most effective way to create a whole new environment in your home. High-end candles evoke not only a feeling of indulgence perfect for a date night, they also provide a smokeless, dripless burn that doesn’t distract from the experience you’ve created.
Apart from decluttering, you really needn’t do much more – the warmth and ambiance provided by candlelight is all you need to enjoy your home from a new perspective.
So send the kids to grandma’s or the neighbor’s, bring in or prepare a nice dinner, and enjoy each other by the light of a few nice candles. It’s bound to be an evening you won’t forget, and hopefully will become a regular occurrence that shapes the future of your relationship.
At Creative Candles, we’re thankful for a lot of things, but most importantly our team of artisans who design and make our candles. We take pride in the fact that real people make each and every candle that leaves our warehouse – they’re all hand-crafted, hand-finished, and loved…all the way from our shop to your home.
Inspired by the fall season, which is full of rich colors and unique textures, this autumn editorial featured on Once Wed was the perfect opportunity to blend delicate textiles, simple lines and earthy colors. The mood was captured beautifully by Jen Jar Photography, and each detail was carefully selected and positioned to complement each other as well as the overall tone of the shoot.
Everything about this shoot conveys a lesson in how to expertly layer together different elements to make them feel new and fresh: our saffron taper candles are clustered together to strategically offset the large, luscious floral centerpiece. To highlight the season of fall, the arrangement features bronze china chrysanthemums, delicate garden roses, carnations and Chinese lanterns.
Geometric-shaped rings, necklaces and studs paired perfectly against the delicate gowns from Gossamer. The stationery suite was crafted with brown-toned marbling and gold foil finish to enhance the warm palette. Finally, the handmade ceramic plates were essential to complement the various layers, highlighting the truly romantic and modern atmosphere.
After reading through this post, we hope you’ll be seeing color in a completely new way. This vibrant autumn editorial shoot combined awe-inspiring wedding flower inspiration and one of the top colors for 2017 -- yellow -- in a modern, but still totally elegant way, all thanks to the rich shade of saffron.

Fall is here and with Halloween right around the corner, it’s time to dress up your home with Halloween decor and stock up for your upcoming spook-tacular soireés. Halloween just wouldn’t be the same without the flickering magic of glowing candlelight, so let’s get ready for the season with some Halloween inspiration featuring our candles!
Black Taper Candles Styled by Eddie Ross
First up is a scary, modern scene set by our friend and world-renowned designer Eddie Ross. Known for his work as East Coast editor for Better Homes and Gardens magazine, Eddie has been setting tables across the globe with Creative Candles for many years. His signature Modern Mix look is brought to life with a tablescape that looks like it’s set for the Addams Family. A gorgeous, gold candelabra featuring our black taper candles steals the show and casts a ghoulish glow.
Roman Bronze Taper Candles
Scary bronze skulls, blood-red wine, spooky spider webs -- oh my! This terrifying scene illuminated by our Roman Bronze tapers is the perfect balance of scary and sophisticated. Perfect for any haunted Halloween gatherings, your guests will not soon forget this eerie-sistible setup.
Black PIllar Candles & Pewter Taper Candles
Take your haunted affair to the next level with the secret ingredient to creating that awe-inspiring graveyard effect: dry ice. Our black pillar candles and pewter taper candles pictured above with hyper-cooled substance (and the mysterious fog it emits when it comes in contact with water) adds to the bone-chilling ambience.
There’s a special sense of beauty and tranquility that fills a room when glowing candlelight is present. That said, it’s important to remember that a lit candle is also an open flame and a potential fire hazard if not monitored properly. According to the National Candle Association, approximately four percent of all U.S. residential fires are started by the unsafe use of candles. As October is National Fire Prevention Month, keep these simple safety tips in mind before lighting any candles in your home.
Trim Wick to ¼”
Before burning any type of candle, be sure to cut the wick down to ¼”. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning and dripping.
Burn Candles in Safe Places
Keep burning candles away from pets and out of the reach of children. Never leave a candle unattended. Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room, and do not burn too many candles in a small room where air flow is limited. Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans and air currents. This will help prevent uneven burning and avoid flare-ups and soot. Drafts can also blow nearby lightweight items (such as paper) into the flame where they could catch fire.
Use the Right Candle Holder
Always use a candle holder that is designed for candle use and make sure it is the right size for the specific candle. The holder should be heat-resistant, sturdy and large enough to contain any drips or melted wax. Also, be sure the candle holder is placed on a stable surface to help prevent heat damage to underlying surfaces and prevent glass containers from breaking.
Keep Flammable Objects Away
Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
The safest way to prevent hot wax splatters is to always use a snuffer to extinguish a candle.
Never use water to extinguish a candle as it can cause splatters or glass containers to break. Extinguish a candle if it repeatedly smokes, flickers or the flame becomes too high as this means the candle isn’t burning properly. If this happens, let it cool off, trim the wick and check for drafts before re-lighting.
What do you picture when you think of a destination wedding set in Italy? A rustic, countryside affair? Think again. This posh and elegant wedding featuring our taper candles on OnceWed is definitely not what you would expect for an Italian destination wedding.
The lovely bride and groom may be Canadian and Australian born and residing in Los Angeles, CA, but they chose the heart of Florence, Italy, as the backdrop for their luxe destination wedding.
With the help of local stylists BiancoAntico and Laura Bravi Events, Jacinte and Hal opted for a truly unique setting at one of the most elegant and luxurious villas in all of Florence: the Villa Cora. The hotel is both exquisite and refined and features several quirky details to surprise the wedding guests.
BiancoAntico and Laura Bravi Events made sure that the style of the wedding carefully balanced the richness of the venue, the grandeur of the Florentine’s surroundings, with romantic yet stylish touches -- all while avoiding an “overdone” look. The result? Absolute perfection.
Every design choice was a reflection of the bride and groom: stylish and classic, but in a unique way! For the reception, they chose a clean, refreshing palette using blues, gold and yellows in a variety of shades. The team paired those hues with both classic stylistic choices mixed with some eclectic details. Our taper candles fit the color palette flawlessly! See more on OnceWed.
